Organisation
Oakfield is a one-form entry Primary School with a maximum of 210 children
on roll (as at April 2009 we have 206 on roll), organised in seven, year
group classes.
We have seven classes in September 2008 organised as follows:
1 class of Year R
1 class of Year 1
1 class of Year 2
1 class of Year 3
1 class of Year 4
1 class of Year 5
1 class of Year 6
One teacher has overall responsibility for each class and
the children are taught by that teacher for a majority of the time. Teachers
work closely together when planning the curriculum in order to ensure continuity
and progression in our children’s learning.
Learning Support Assistants are employed to work in classes under the direction
of qualified teachers to provide extra support for individual children and
small groups.
Our school sessions are as follows:
Infants: 9.00 am to 12.00 noon - 1.00
pm to 3.15 pm
Juniors: 9.00 am to 12.15 pm - 1.00 pm to 3.15 pm
Children may come into their classroom from 8.50 am and this is a reasonable
time to bring your child ready to start the morning session. Before this
time children are not supervised.
Parents should meet their child at the door nearest to their classroom. We encourage
parents to be prompt at the end of the school day as it can be very distressing
for a child whose parent is late, particularly our younger children.

Equal
Opportunities
At
Oakfield we value every child, irrespective of ability, race, gender,
age or achievements. We encourage children to develop positive personal
qualities and attitudes towards themselves, others and their work.
We have our own Equal Opportunities policy, which is very closely linked
to the Hampshire County Council policy.
Pastoral
Care
The care of and for each child is of paramount concern to us at Oakfield.
We want our school to be a happy learning environment for both the children
and adults who work in it. We have a positive approach to behaviour and
children are therefore encouraged to be kind, polite and careful. We
recognise that there are times when children are preoccupied by personal
or home-based problems that affect school learning. In the interest of
your child and so that we can approach each child sensitively with extra
understanding at difficult times, please do talk, in complete confidence,
to your child’s
class teacher.

Special
Educational Needs
The
provision for Special Educational Needs in this school is in line with
the Government Code of Practice. (SEN
Policy)
Throughout their time at this school we will monitor the progress of
children and through this we will highlight those children who have particular
special needs which will be addressed initially by the class teacher.
If there are continuing concerns, our Special Needs Co-ordinator,
Mrs West, will recommend a programme of work to be used by the teacher
and Learning Support Assistant in the classroom.
Whatever the Special Educational Needs of a child may be we will discuss
the child’s needs with parents and consider, in co-operation with
parents, the kind of provision which can be made. This may include enlisting
advice and help from outside agencies such as an Educational Psychologist.
In a small number of cases the Local Education Authority may consider
that a full assessment of a child’s Special Educational Needs may
be necessary, which may result in the issuing a Statement of Special
Educational Needs. Children with a ‘statement’ are taught
in the same classes as their year group and have full access to the National
Curriculum, but may receive additional support from a Special Needs Assistant.

Gifted and Talented Children
As
with Special Educational needs, the constant monitoring of children’s
progress throughout the school may highlight children who are particularly
able in certain subjects. Class Teachers are able to address the needs
of these children in their classroom by careful grouping of children
and setting open-ended investigational work which a child can develop
as far as their abilities allow.
We have a co-ordinator for Gifted and Talented Children and we
also have access to outside agencies who can offer advice and support. Able

Sex Education
The
Education Act of 1986 stated that sex education
‘should be given in such a manner as to encourage pupils to have
due regard for moral consideration and the value family life’
At
Oakfield we whole-heartedly agree with the above statement and our Governors
have produced a sex education policy which has been shared with and approved
by parents. In our policy we endeavour to encourage children to value
the different and varied arrangements of family life which are in society
today. Our sex education will be taught as an integral part of the Science
and Personal, Health and Social Education programme.
As always, parents are welcome to read our policy document and also they
have the right to withdraw their child from any aspect of sex education
that is not required by the National Curriculum Science orders.

parents pay for school meals on a weekly basis by sending the money on Monday.
Credit will be given for absences and adjustments made the following week.
We need to know if your child has any allergies so that we can be alert and take
extra care. Preferences can usually be made through the choices offered. We have
an excellent team of lunchtime supervisors who are especially vigilant and keen
to ensure the safety and happiness of every child at Oakfield.
Parents receiving income support may be entitled to free school meals for their
children. Further information can be obtained from the school office. All such
applications are treated with total confidentiality.
Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch or go home for lunch.

Car Parking
We ask parents not to drive into the school grounds when collecting or delivering
children. The school car park is for staff and visitors only. Please park
in Sylvia Crescent but do be careful not to block any of our neighbour’s
drives in case there is an emergency and they need a clear exit. This request
is in the interest of the safety of all children. Experience has also shown
us that traffic flow is eased if Sylvia Crescent is treated as an unofficial
one-way system. Please take the first left turn in the crescent and then
follow the road round.

FOO
Friends of Oakfield is our parent/teacher association, known as "FOO"
As soon
as any child joins Oakfield, their parents/carers automatically become members
of our "Friends of Oakfield". Through an elected committee consisting of
parents and staff, FOO organise several fund raising and social events throughout
the school year and we are indebted to them for their support which enables
the school to provide additional resources for the children.
FOO organises highly successful fundraising events for families and children
throughout the year and are always looking for new ideas both to raise funds
and to provide social occasions. Last year FOO raised over 3,000 Pounds.
Events
in the past have included, Happys' Circus, Spooks and Sparkles disco, Easter
themed competitions, Fashion Shows, End of Term Discos Smartie ransom and Christmas
and Summer Fayres.
Forthcoming events:
