PE and Sport Premium    –     Sports at Oakfield Primary School

PE and sport at Oakfield Primary School provides a wide range of opportunities to develop skills, teamwork, leadership and awareness of the importance of exercise. Taught through a varied and accessible curriculum of games, gymnastics and dance, children of all abilities are encouraged to make the most of the talents and abilities. We hope that through positive engagement with sport and physical activity, children will understand the value of physical activity and the development of personal responsibility for one’s own health and fitness, both physically and mentally.

In games, children have the opportunity in PE lessons to develop skills in a wide range of sports, delivered through the Real PE programme * and through other, sport-specific lessons. The school also offers swimming lessons to pupils in Years 4 & 5 and a wide-range of extra-curricular clubs, run by staff and parents.

We are currently working towards achieving the Bronze Level ‘School Games’ kitemark, ensuring that all our pupils engage in at least two hours of Physical Education, school sport and physical activity per week. We believe that competition in school sport is healthy when undertaken with the right spirit, which our school values underpin. Children have opportunity to compete at an intra-school level between classes or colour teams, on an inter-school level at local tournaments, festivals and leagues through our membership of the New Forest Schools Sport Partnership.
