Our Current School Improvement Plan Overview
1 - Strengthening Pedagogy
a. Implement targeted strategies to further raise standards of writing across the school
so that there is a demonstrable improvement year on year and any gaps in progress close at individual and group level.
b. Further enhance the range of teaching techniques used by assistant teachers to include questioning strategies
so that pupils who need the most support make strong progress
c. Ensure careful consideration is given to task design, particularly in foundation subjects
so that all children are able to access our ambitious curriculum content with opportunities for stretch and challenge
d. Provide increased opportunities for children to reason and demonstrate their understanding of mathematical concepts through diverse representations
so that there is an increase in the number of children achieving a higher standard of mathematics at key measurable points in the school
2 - Developing Children’s Character
a. Increase pupils’ understanding of protected characteristics
so that pupils can ask questions and broaden their understanding of a diverse community in a safe space.
3 - Securing Firm Foundations
a. Further enhance the ambitiously planned sequence of learning which extends beyond the requirements of the EYFS Framework
so that children are equipped with the skills necessary to be successful in their transition to Year 1, particularly in the core skills of reading, writing and maths.
b. Strengthen the knowledge base of local nursery and preschool practitioners through enhanced partnerships
so that pupils are school ready, particularly in the area of Communication and Language.
c. Support the Early Years Assistant to increase their knowledge of child development, the requirements of the Early Learning Goals and the Characteristics of effective learning
so that they are skilled in supporting children through high quality interactions and questioning.
4 - Strengthening Leadership
a. Ensure that there is sustained coherence and consistency in the identified subjects of Computing, DT and Music
so that children know more and remember more over time
b. Provide purposeful assessment opportunities which support the teaching of the foundation curriculum
so that learners are extended and supported through subject specific next steps and interventions
c. Utilise focused and effective continuous professional development for all staff
So that their knowledge of how to support pupils’ academic and personal developments increases over time
5 - Strengthening Partnerships
a. Further strengthen our engagement with families who might need more support
so that educational outcomes are prioritised and enhanced.
b. Improve the transparency of our school support system, especially when it comes to intervention groups.
so that families better understand how we are supporting their child on a daily basis
